Advertising on KTLN PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 09 May 2009 16:28

KTLN carries limited advertising.  In our first year, 2009, some of this was used to cover part of our set up and running expenses.  The expenses we have recovered mostly relate to IT items such as software, server costs and the KTLN web cameras.  Expenses we have been happy to stand include things like electricity and ADSL charges.  And of course, nobody at KTLN gets paid.  Nobody in the UK or in Kalkan charges for their time or claims personal expenses.

Once we had covered these limited items of expenditure, any surplus advertising revenue went directly to The KTLN TrustThis is a UK based fund, for the benefit of Kalkan.  We hope that you can see therefore, that KTLN is not a profit making enterprise.

That was how things worked in 2009.  For 2010 we are happy to confirm that 100% of our local advertising income will go to The KTLN Trust.  We don't need much to run this website, and we expect to be able to generate enough income from Google Ads.  So all income from banner advertising or from the KTLN Business Directory will end up benefitting Kalkan.

Here is how advertsing works on this website.

Google Ads
We have a small income stream from Google Ads.  From the end of 2009, it's enough to cover our running costs.

Advertising Banners
We have an area for advertsing banners towards the top of our web Pages.

In 2009 we allowed a maximum of 12 businesses to have an advertising banner with KTLN.  These appear randomly when you open a web page.

When you click on the banner it will take you to the advertisers web site.  If they do not have their own web site, you will be directed to an enhanced Business Directory page within the KTLN website.

You could argue that in order to maximise income for The KTLN Trust we should not set a maximum number of banner advertisements.  However, we need to be fair to the advertisers.  By limiting the numbers they will have at least a reasonable chance of their banner being seen on any given web page.

There is a balance to be struck between generating income for The KTLN Trust and providing reasonable viewing opportunities for our advertisers.  We shall keep this under review, but for 2009, this will be our policy.  It is likely that in 2010 we will have a small increase in the number of advertisers, so if you are interested in taking one of thesebanner ads, please contact us.

KTLN Business Directory
You can enhance the brief details that we show in our Business Directory.  If you agree to make a minimum donation to The KTLN Trust (contact us for precise details), you can tell us more about your business.  For example you can show your email address, add photos, and add text to tell KTLN users more about your business.

The donation gives you an enhanced Business Directory entry for 12 months, after which you will have an option to revert back to a standard entry or renew your enhanced entry for a further 12 month period, making a further minimum donation to The KTLN Trust.

The KTLN editorial team does reserve the right to approve what is written in this Business Directory entry.

Note that 100% of income received from businesses to enhance their Business Directory entries goes to The KTLN Trust.  None of this money goes towards the running of the website.

KTLN is Independent
At KTLN we try to remain objective, impartial and independent.  The fact that we have advertising, in the form of Google Ads or advertising banners, or that we permit enhanced Business Directory entries, does not mean that KTLN recommends the businesses featured.

We are not trying to steer you to any particular business.  The aim of our website is to provide you with comprehensive information that is helpful and accurate, so that you can make an informed decsion.  If you believe that we fall short of the standards we have set ourselves, please let us know and we will review our website content.

The right to refuse
Please note that we do retain the right to refuse an advertisement or a request to enhance a Business Directory entry.

Thinking about advertising with us, or enhancing your Business Directory entry?
This website was established on 1st April 2009.  We reckon we are now the most popular English language website in Kalkan.  We are delighted with the numbers of people visiting the site and also with the positive feedback we have received so far.  On our home page, you can see examples of feedback that we have received.

As far as numbers are concerned, on our home page you can see how many people are currently online.  You can also see the maximum number ever online.  This maximum figure ignores our launch date, when we had 851 people online at the same time!   On average, we get more then 500,000 pages viewed every month. As at October 2009, we have over 1,400 registered members.

If you would like to talk to us about advertising, or enhancing your Business Directory entry, please get in touch via the Contact Us tab at the top of this page.
