Flight & Travel InformationHere you will find lots of useful links to help you plan your trip to, or from Turkey.

Below we provide you with links to a number of excellent travel booking sites and price comparison sites, together with links for all major UK airports and Turkish airports you might use.

We even have a great Skyscanner flight search tool, on the right side of this page, making it even quicker and easier to find a your flight.  The default search is for flights to Dalaman from the UK, but you can of course change these variables.

KTLN research (2012) shows that 87% of you come to Kalkan via Dalaman airport.  This may be the nearest airport to Kalkan, but it's worth checking other routes as the overall cost including airport transfers may be less.

All you need is right here!

Love KTLN.  Love Kalkan.

The KTLN Kalkan guide to cheap travel
Published in September 2011, this 15 point guide may help you to save money when travelling to and from Kalkan.  Well worth a read: click on the following link - The KTLN Kalkan guide to cheap travel

Dalaman Airport
According to the KTLN Kalkan Survey of 2012, about 87% of Kalkan visitors arrive via Dalaman airport.  If you would like a comprehensive list of all UK airports, and all carriers operating from them, and coming to Dalaman, click on the following link:  List all airports/carriers coming to Dalaman Airport

At Dalaman airport, food and drink is expensive.  If you are flying from Dalaman, we recommend taking a packed lunch and drinks with you.  If you can't do that, you could consider checking in, and then leaving the main building to go to the cafe used by the taxi drivers and holiday reps, just outside, near the car park.

You will find the prices there a little cheaper.  The only down side is that you have to go through the scanners again, but at least you won't have your luggage if you have checked in.

KTLN has negotiated discounts for KTLN members, at the CIP Premium Lounge, and the Dalaman Airlet shop.  See KTLN Exclusive Offers, in our main menu.

In January 2012, KTLN went to interview the General Manager of Dalaman international airport. To read our report, click here.

Live flight information - Arrivals & Departures
Click on the following link to go straight to the KTLN live flight information, for all UK airports serving Turkey, plus Dalaman, Antalya and Istanbul airports.

No need to go to any other websites, because everything you need is all there on one page.  You can even see a map that tracks the progress of the flight.

The default view is for Dalaman airport, however, you can change the airport at the click of a button.  Try it and see how good it is!

Airport Transfer Sharing
We recommend trying a brand new website for 2011, called TransferWithMe.com.  It has been created by KTLN's webmaster.  We like it.  Why not give it a try!  As featured on BBC News Click online, in January 2012.

Catching a bus to Dalaman airport
It isn't possible to get a bus directly from Kalkan to Dalaman airport.  However, you can catch a bus from Kalkan to Fethiye, and then catch a Havaş service from Fethiye bus station to Dalaman airport.

Click on this link to find out about the Havaş service

Security Restrictions
With effect from 1st January 2010 new security restrictions come into force at Turkish airports, limiting the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels you can take on the plane in your hand luggage.  Click here for more details. New security restrictions.

Advanced Passenger Information (API)
A new European Union directive came into effect in January 2010.  For flights between certain designated countries, including the UK and Turkey, Advanced Passenger Information (API) is now required.

Essentially, this is the information contained within your passport.  Details must be provided between 3 months and 7 days before departure.  Clearly, if you are booking to fly within 7 days, this does not apply.  This requirement applies to all carriers.  If you book your flight online you should be prompted to complete the required details.

Luggage Limits
If you want to know what your luggage allowance is with any airline, why not try www.luggagelimits.com  This website also provides other useful related information about each airline.

Flying to Rhodes from Meis (Kastelorizo)
There are 3 flights per week from Meis to Rhodes.  The flight time is approximately 45 minutes.  To check times and book flights go to:  www.intickets.gr/en_index.asp

A few more tips
If you are using price comparison sites remember that you may get a price in one currency on the comparison site, but when you get transferred to the flight operator to book, they may quote in another currency.  For example, you may see a Skyscanner price in sterling but when put through to book the price is in euros.  It's not a problem, but you may initially think the price has changed!

ABTA & ATOL
It is always advisable to deal with operators who conform to industry codes, such as ABTA and ATOL.  If you want to check whether a company is a member of these groups you can do so by going to the relevant website.  Here are the links you need.  ABTA  &  ATOL

Please note that ATOL protection only generally works for flights booked in the UK.  If you are in Turkey, booking a flight back to the UK, the chances are you are not protected by the ATOL scheme.  Click here to read more about this

Protection if paying by credit and debit card
And remember, if you use your credit card to book a flight you have the additional peace of mind of knowing you will get your money back if the company goes bust.  You can also get some protection with debit cards.  Check out the following links, for more information.

Which - your rights when paying by credit card

What Consumer - debit card chargeback

What Consumer - if the airline goes bust

What Consumer - if the tour operator goes bust

UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office Advice
You may also want to check for the latest travel advice from the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).  This link takes you to the FCO home page and here is the link to the FCO page on Turkey.  You will find some really excellent advice and information here.

Travel Insurance
It should go without saying that if you are travelling abroad it is advisable to take out travel insurance.  If you need medical attention you will find there is no free NHS in Turkey.

Live radar view of planes over Europe
Just for a bit of fun, if you have a little spare time on your hands, how about taking a look at a radar view of planes flying around European skies - including Turkey.  Here is a link to a KTLN Totally Trivial Turkish Titbits article on Flight Radar 24.
