There is nothing like a Dane - Danish Ambassador to Turkey visits Kalkan PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 24 April 2017

Svend Olling - Danish Ambassador to TurkeyWe get some very interesting people visiting Kalkan.  Actors, musicians, sports people, "celebs" (people of no discernable talent who are simply famous for being "on telly"), politicians and the occasional diplomat.  When we spot them we tend to leave them in peace rather than pester them as they are on holiday after all.

Now that he has left it's OK to let you know that we had a great Dane in town last week when the Danish Ambassador to Turkey, Svend Olling visited Kalkan.

The Ambassador was with a small party visiting this part of the Turquoise Coast, and according to local businessman Ridvan Zeybek who was advising how to make the most of his time here, the Ambassador had a most enjoyable stay.

It's not the first senior diplomat we have had in Kalkan - there have been a few.  In fact our very own British Ambassador, Richard Moore has spent a few days in Kalkan with his wife Maggie and her guide dog Star.

Property rentals

This report is about the new requirement for registering guests renting out holiday villas and apartments.

Those who have been eagerly awaiting this article are no doubt hoping that we have done what we normally do - spoken with the people who have got the facts (rather than the gossip) so that we can clearly signpost what it all means.

We have indeed spoken to lots of people and they have given us the facts - as they see them.  Regretfully, on this occasion the facts don’t stack up neatly to give us a totally clear sense of direction.

So in this report we are simply going to be honest with you and explain what we believe to be the genuine facts, but you need to be aware that other views exist.  There is no point in pretending there is a universally agreed view.  There isn’t.  You will have to draw your own conclusions.

Join the Patara beach litter pick walk - Tuesday 25th April PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 14 April 2017

PataraPatara beach is a magnificent place, a short drive away from Kalkan.  Its golden sands and dunes stretch for an amazing 18 kilometres, in the direction of Ölüdeniz.

It is a place of outstanding natural beauty, and is a specially protected area in Turkish law, where sea turtles return year after year to lay their eggs.

But this delightful spot on the Turquoise coast can sometimes be blighted by litter and rubbish.  Some of this is deposited when we have stormy weather in the winter.  Sometimes it is inconsiderate people.

Now and again, volunteers go along and have a bit of a clean up, and that is exactly what is planned for Tuesday 25th April.  You are all invited to come along and help.
