My reason for joining [is that] it's a great way of keeping in touch with all that is happening while we aren't able to be there. Can I congratulate you on your web site, it's superb, well done.

| Registering your property details with Kalkan Jandarma - it works |

ShareIn June 2010, Kalkan Turkish Local News reported on a new initiative to help improve response times, when calling out the Jandarma in an emergency. This voluntary scheme for foreign property owners, works by you providing some details to the Jandarma, whereupon they give you a unique Emergency ID number, which you can provide in an emergency situation. The idea is that with this information, they can more easily locate your property, when called out in an emergency. And from experience, we can tell you that it works. On Wednesday evening, the KTLN team were enjoying an evening out in Islamlar. At 10.15pm, we received a phone call from our alarm monitoring company telling us that our villa alarm had just gone off. We immediately called the Jandarma, and told them what was happening, quoting our Emergency ID number. The Jandarma station radioed the nearest officers, who were routinely patrolling the Kızıltaş area. They had in fact already heard our alarm, but the call from the station pinpointed exactly where to go. For security reasons, we don't want to say precisely how long it took from the first phone call, to the Jandarma arriving, but let's just say it was under 5 minutes. By the time we had driven back from Islamlar, the Jandarma had checked our property, and were waiting for us outside our front gate, Interestingly, they also had with them a huge dog on a lead. We don't know how well 'trained' this dog is, but we suspect its very presence would be enough to strike fear into any would be burglar. Happily, on this occasion it was a false alarm, with a simple explanation. However had it been a burglar, he would have required Usain Bolt-like speed to have evaded capture. The whole episode provided a very noisy, but apparently entertaining spectacle for the holiday-makers staying in the adjacent villa. We apologised for the disruption to their quiet night on the villa terrace, but they appeared quite relaxed about the whole thing. In fact, they commented on how quickly the Jandarma arrived, saying that you would not get that kind of rapid response back in the UK. We appreciate that wherever you live, it's impossible to have 100% security, however we feel that bit more secure, knowing that the Jandarma are able to respond so quickly.
