I think the main reasons [for joining] are that it's so useful and informative.  KTLN is the only Kalkan site I need! Thanks for your hard work!

FireStory updated: KTLN brings you some long range photos of a fire that appears to be raging, somewhere in the distance - beyond Akbel and Yeşilköy, in the general direction of Üzümlü.

So far we have not seen or heard any fire engines, however, from where we are in Kalkan, the volume of smoke appears to be indicative of a large scale fire.

We will bring more details when we have them.  Click on Read more to see the photos.

Story update Wednesday 18.30 (Turkish time): There is still a significant amount of smoke hanging in the air, and some of it is drifting in the direction of Kalkan.

So if you are out and about in Kalkan tonight and you can smell smoke, that's what it is. You may also find ash debris on your terrace or in your pool in the morning.

A number of local residents have told us that the fire is on the flat plain beyond Yeşilköy, and it is all under control.  It seems likely that this is farmers burning off their fields.

As we publish this story at 5pm on Wednesday, (Turkish time), the cloud of smoke appears to be getting larger.
