Once again, the Belediye is organising the celebrations, which will be broadly similar to those of last year. Highlights will include the morning ceremony at Atatürks statue in town, a programme of events up at the main school, and entertainment by the harbour in the evening, which will include free food, singing and dancing (you just buy your own drinks). When KTLN has more precise details, we will bring them to you, but for now, just make a note in your diary, if you are going to be around. The weather forecast of a few days ago was not great for Republic Day, however, with just one week to go, the forecast has been updated and it is now predicting a fine day. Keep your fingers crossed. If you are in Kalkan right now, you may have heard the school marching band rehearsing for the big day. If last year was anything to go by, everyone should have a brilliant time. KTLN would like to remind anyone who is in Kalkan next week, that Friday 29th October is Republic Day, which this year celebrates the 87th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.
