KTLN is the first thing I Google when I open my computer in the morning. It is the best way to catch up with what is happening in Kalkan. How did I manage before it existed?

KTLN poll - Should Kalkan old town be pedestrian only PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 31 October 2010
Share

KTLN would like to invite registered members to take part in another poll.

This time we are asking you, "Should Kalkan old town be pedestrian only (except for deliveries within set hours)?"

By town centre, we mean the old part of town that is currently closed to traffic from 7pm in the evening, during the main tourist season.

The access points to be controlled would be as follows:
1.
At the top of town close to the taxi rank, where there are hinged metal barriers on the road.
2. At the harbour, next to Marina restaurant.
3. On Süleyman Yılmaz Cadessi, near to the White House Hotel.

These are shown as red lines in the map below.

Pedestrians only

Delivery lorries would require access at certain times of the day. These hours would be determined by the Belediye. For information, currently, all deliveries should be made by 10am, although this is not always enforced.

KTLN members are invited to select one of the following answers:

  • Yes - all year.
  • Yes - tourist season only.
  • Yes - tourist season, but evenings only.
  • No - allow traffic always.
  • Other - please tell us your view.
  • Don't know.

If you are logged in as a member, you can find this poll directly underneath the webcam image, in the top right corner of the KTLN home page. You may only vote once.

You also will see an option to check the results, so you can see what everyone is thinking.

Editor's update: In the light of feedback since this article was published, we would like to mention something about this poll in particular, and polls we may run from time to time.

This poll is our idea, and not at the request of the Belediye.  We are simply interested to know the views of our members.  We suspect the Belediye may also be interested, as this subject does crop up for discussion from time to time.

However, the idea that a simple vox pop is an attempt to tell the Belediye what to do, is just a tad bonkers.

KTLN last year undertook a wider survey, to which 388 members responded.  We shared those results with the Belediye, who had reviewed the questions before we asked people to take part.  Once again, this was simply passing on opinions, it was not giving the Belediye an agenda for change.

So if anyone is concerned about these polls, please don't be.  They are just the views of those who choose to take part.  Nothing more.

The previous KTLN poll
In our last poll, we asked you "Does Kalkan need a tourist information point?"

As at 7pm on 30th October 2010, 7 out of 10 people (72%), said yes.  About 26% said no, and 2% did not know.  At the time we published this article, 136 people had voted.
