Republic Day in Kalkan 2010They say a picture paints a thousand words, so rather than typing 19,000 words, here are 19 photos from Kalkan's Republic Day celebrations.

The four main events were the ceremony at Atatürk's statue in the morning, followed by speeches and musical performances by schoolchildren, at the market place in town.

Then, in the evening there was a torchlight procession from the bus station down to the harbour, where there followed a meal, accompanied by much singing and dancing.

The morning was formal, the performances by the children in the market place were enchanting, and the evening celebrations were brilliant. The people of Kalkan certainly know how to have a good time.
