Kurban Bayram - what's open and what's not PDF Print E-mail

Ziraat BankIt's Kurban Bayram next week, and a number of businesses will be closed for the holiday period.

KTLN brings you the details that we are aware of, regarding what's open and what's not.

Below, we tell you what we know about banks, the PTT, Kalkan Belediye, shops & restaurants, and transport services.

Banks
The banks in Kalkan will be closed most of next week.  Offices will close at 12.30 on Monday 15th November, and they will reopen at 9.00 on Monday 22nd November.

ATMs will be fully stocked with cash when the banks close, but if they run out, they are not replenished.

If you bank wth Deniz Bank or Akbank, remember that these banks also have standalone machines in Kalkan old town. There is also an Akbank machine in
Gelemiş village (Patara).

Please do remember that at times when the banks are closed, this is a prime time for crooks to trick people at ATMs. Your card can be taken and you can't check with the bank for a few days, during which time they can spend your money. Be alert for 'helpful strangers' loitering near ATMs.

This scam has happened many times in Kalkan. To read more about it, click here to read an earlier KTLN report.

PTT (Post Office)
When KTLN enquired about opening hours, we were told that the PTT will close at lunch time on Monday 15th November, and the office will reopen on Monday 22nd November.

Kalkan Belediye
The Belediye closes at 17.00 on Friday 12th November, and will reopen at 09.00 on Monday 22nd November.

Shops and restaurants
You will find that all supermarkets are open as usual, and the Thursday market will also be there, although perhaps with some traders absent, taking a holiday.

It is not possible to provide a list of all shops and restaurants.  However, as Kalkan is a tourist destination, we are told that Turkish holidaymakers may come to Kalkan over the holiday period.

So, with a combination of visitors and local residents, we think you can expect to find a small number of shops and restaurants open.

Transport
KTLN has been informed that you can expect to find a normal service next week, with taxis, minibuses and coaches.
