In this report, we outline what money has been received, where it has come from, and how it has been spent. You will see that we still have funds in the bank, and we would welcome your suggestions as to how this can be spent, in and around Kalkan. But before we plunge into the detail, let's tell you some headline figures.
To everyone who has contributed, we want to tell you that you are fantastic, and on behalf of all the beneficiaries, in and around Kalkan, we thank you so much. Below, we show a table summarising the numbers. You will see that both British sterling and Turkish lira have been donated - the amounts are detailed separately. However, for simplicity, in this report, we sometimes show a combined figure. Where we combine the two currencies, please note we use an indicative rate of 2.4. Income and expenditure - 1st May 2009 to 31st December 2010 (20 months)
Around 30% of donations have come from banner adverts on KTLN, whilst the remaining 70% has been donated by you, the KTLN readers. The reference to expenditure, relates to when KTLN was set up in 2009. We deducted the amount shown from banner advert income, to cover a few of our set up costs. That was a one off. Since the end of 2009, all banner advert income has gone directly to The KTLN Trust. Some donations are received in sterling, however most of the money spent by The KTLN Trust is in Turkish lira. So you will note that we have transferred some sterling across to Turkish lira. Specifically, we exchanged £1,752.10 for 3,994.67TL. Here is how we spent the money so far
The Trust donated an additional 1,000TL towards the building of the new amphitheatre, at the school. We made two payments of 1,000TL each to the Kalkander Association, to assist local people who needed treatment for severe medical conditions, where there was no alternative funding available. More recently, we have paid for every child at the Rehabilitation Centre to have a new pair of shoes - that's 42 pairs in total. The cost came to 1,290TL. It is shown as a pending payment as at 31st December 2010, but payment to the shop has now been made.
We said that anything donated between 23rd November and 31st December 2010, would go to the appeal. We can confirm that you donated a total of £295 plus 100TL, and these funds will be passed on to the Kalkan Children in Need fundraising organisers. KTLN is happy to work with, and to promote the events of, other fundraisers in Kalkan.
Almost three quarters of funds raised have been spent But we still have a significant sum available to spend - £2,218.83 and 131.67TL. That's roughly 5,500TL, if expressed in one currency. We need your suggestions as to how this money should be spent. We don't want to keep it in the bank. So please let us have your ideas. One idea we had was to provide the local public library with a new computer. The library is currently relocating to where Deniz Bank used to be, and the computers they have are a bit old now. Maybe a new location deserves a new computer. What do you think? Finally, may we take this opportunity to once again, thank you for your generosity. If you have read some of our local news reports, perhaps you will have seen what a difference you have made. If you would like to make a donation to The KTLN Trust, it is very easy to do so. May we invite you to click on the following link, and help us to raise even more money for good causes in Kalkan. KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey.Katie-Ellen |

The

Thanks to KTLN readers, and the support of businesses in Kalkan, The KTLN Trust has so far raised a sum equivalent to over 20,000TL, or if you prefer, in sterling, a sum of over £8,400.
Kalkan First School has benefitted, with a laptop computer, a computer projector and screen. The laptop itself was donated by generous KTLN members, and The KTLN Trust paid for it to be configured for school purposes. The total spent was 1,430TL.
And when local fundraisers held a Kalkan Children in Need appeal, we made it easy for those of you not in Kalkan, to donate.
