There is not much to tell you this month, so our report is quite short, but we do have a few photos to keep you in the picture. Let's start with something different this month. The new road to Patara is now open. It is a much smoother ride now from the D400, heading towards Patara, however at the moment there is a short rough patch, about 30 metres from the D400 junction, where they appear to have run out of tarmac. Presumably this will be sorted out before the big event in April. The D400 Kalkan by-pass rumbles on, towards Kışla, and beyond. Safety concerns were raised at last week's Belediye Board meeting, regarding rock falls coming close to passing traffic. Below: The junction near Luka restaurant.
Also, as you reach the bend, close to the entrance to Kışla, (shown below), the road does become quite narrow, and if two cars pass each other, they are forced to the very edge of the road, where there is alot of debris. So please drive carefully on this stretch of road.
Running parallel to the D400, between Kışla and Kalkan, you can see where the new service road will run. Here are some photos of the road - Kışla Caddesi. Below: Looking at Kömürlük, and towards Kışla in the distance.
In town, some of the side roads are showing the after effects of the recent work to lay electric cables. Channels have been filled in, but not in a way that returns the road to its original condition. Belediye workers have also been out and about, repairing burst water pipes, as shown below. This hole is on Nergis Sokak. By the way, the worker is not exceptionally fat, what you see is a colleague stood on the other side of him. Bad angle!
There is still no sign of work starting on the dual carriageway from the D400 traffic lights, down towards Ziraat Bank, or the promised work on Vatan Caddesi, in Kızıltaş. KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey.Katie-Ellen |
