Share Currently, the 1955 Law 6570 on Real Property Leases, is the principal piece of legislation governing landlord / tenant relationships in Turkey. However all that is about to change, as the Turkish parliament has just passed a new law, governing these types of contracts, which will come into effect on 1st July 2012. The new laws will limit annual rental increases, (linking them to inflation), and will set a limit on the amount of deposit that can be asked for. Landlords get some new rights, including the right to terminate a rental agreement to allow relatives to occupy the property. Interestingly, landlords also have a right to cancel the rental agreement, if renters disturb neighbours by barbecuing on their balconies! You can read more about this change in the law in this Today’s Zaman article: Today’s Zaman reportKTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey. Katie-Ellen |
