On Saturday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, (pictured right), was in the Fethiye area, where he was performing official duties. On Sunday, TBMM Başkam, Mehmet Ali Şahin, was passing through, as he stopped off briefly in Patara, to see how work is progressing on the renovation of the Lycian Parliament building. The Prime Minister was in the area to perform opening ceremonies for no fewer than 34 different projects - some of them in person, and others by video link. We have found a video of the Prime Minister's visit to Fethiye, where he addressed a crowd estimated to be around 20,000 strong. To watch it, please click on the Dail Motion icon below. When the TBMM Başkam, (the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly), had finished at Patara, his motorcade of black and silver cars headed off towards Kaş. The Kalkan Jandarma were manning the traffic lights at the D400 junction, which allowed him only a fleeting glimpse of Kalkan, as he sped through.Sorry, there is no photo. He was so quick, we didn’t even have time to get the lens cap off the camera! Below: Photo taken in January 2011, on a walk from Delikkemer to Patara. You can see where the renovations are taking place, on the left of the image.

We were misinformed.Incidentally, it was a busy day for the local Jandarma on Sunday. Quite apart from looking after the security of a VIP, later that day they were busy following up an excellent piece of evidence, in their search for a burglar. It is too early to say any more at this stage, but we hope to bring you some good news in due course. KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey. Katie-Ellen |
