Holed gulet in Kalkan harbour - update PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday, Tuesday 28th April 2009, we told you about a gulet from the V-GO fleet, which sank in Kalkan harbour.

The V-Go 1, a twin masted 26 metre gulet, was travelling from Demre to Fethiye when it struck rocks between Kapıtaş and Kalkan, and was holed below the waterline.   There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident and thankfully none of the crew were seriously hurt.

KTLN spoke to a couple of the crew today and they were clearly shaken by the incident. The plan is to refloat the boat with huge air bags and make temporary repairs sufficient to allow it to sail back to Kaş for permanent repairs.

Currently, the luxury gulet, which costs between 800 & 1,300 euros per day to rent, remains on the harbour floor, submerged up to the gunwales (the top edge of the side of the boat).

For details of the gulet see the company website www.v-go.co.uk
