Following a surveillance operation, a total of 10 suspects were initially arrested. Nine of these suspects are currrently in jail, pending the full outcome of investigations. We are obliged to point out that until the due process of law has run its course, the nine suspects in jail are regarded as innocent. Kalkan Turkish Local News understands that this is an ongoing operation, and more arrests may follow. We can confirm that the manager of the Kalkan Tedaş office, who originally went missing at the time of the initial arrests, was eventually found, and is one of the nine people currently in jail. The individuals concerned include people employed by the Tedaş, and local middle men, or 'fixers', who are alleged to have colluded with Tedaş officers, in corrupt practices. The Muhtar of Çayköy (the village headman), is also amongst those currently in jail. He is alleged to have falsified documents for residents in his village and also for residents of surrounding villages, for financial gain. Below: The Tedaş office in Kalkan. It is understood that the files of 1,325 electricity customers are to be reviewed for irregularities, in an investigation that could take up to two months. Most of these customers are believed to be out of Kalkan town, and in the surrounding villages. KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey. Katie-Ellen |
