Make a Difference DayKalkan Turkish Local News is joining forces with Kalkan Belediye and Kalkan First School for the first ever Kalkan Make a Difference (MAD) Day.

Everyone in Kalkan is invited to go MAD - Turkish and non-Turkish, visitors and residents, adults and children. Local businesses will also be encouraged to help out.

On Wednesday 13th April, we will be removing litter from the streets of Kalkan, and having a general tidy up, in time for the start of the tourist season.

The idea is to spread volunteers around Kalkan, who will make their way on foot to Kalkan beach, picking up litter along the way.

Pinar Büfe cafeAll volunteers will meet up at the Pinar Büfe cafe behind the beach, (pictured left), where the bags of rubbish can be left.

As a thank you, the Belediye will provide all MAD volunteers with a picnic of drinks, (non-alcoholic), and a piece of cake, or something similarly delicious. There is even talk of some live entertainment.

The precise details have yet to be finalised, but for now, please make a note in your diary: Wednesday 13th April 2011.

A little nearer to the day, we will tell you more, including the start time. To help us wth planning, we will ask you to register your interest with KTLN, and tell us where you would prefer to start from - presumably, somewhere near your home. (You don't need to contact us just yet).

KTLN, working with the Belediye and the school, will create a plan to ensure that volunteers cover as many Kalkan streets as possible.

It is a chance to roll up your sleeves, and take part in a community activity that will make Kalkan a tidier place. It should be fun, so come on - why not join us, and make a difference?

Keep watching KTLN, for more details.
