Kalkan water supply update - 28th March 2011 PDF Print E-mail

Kalkan water supplyImportant update Tuesday morning: Here is some news about the water supply to Kalkan.

We have information about a planned outage, for the Kışla and Kömürlük areas.

But first, a quick update on the current water supply, (Monday 28th March).

Some areas of Kalkan may be experiencing a lack of water today.  This is due to a power supply failure at the pumps, near to Saklikent.  We are happy to report that the problem has been resolved, and water is flowing again, but it may take a few hours for the pressure to build up.

Planned outage in Kışla and Kömürlük
We are aware of rumours that have been circulating, about plans to cut the water supply to these areas, for up to two weeks, or even for as long as one month.

Important Update
On Monday 28th March, KTLN reported that the water supply was going to be cut, and we said the period of disruption will be nowhere near as long as is being talked about.  This was based upon discussions with three sources - two of them within the Belediye.

Yesterday, we reminded you that the D400 roadworks are due to end on 4th May 2011 - just over one month from now.  We were advised that shortly before this date, the water supply to the above areas will switch from an old pipe to a new one, running alongside the new road.

At this time, according to our sources, the water supply would probably be off for 2 to 3 days, for properties in Kışla and Kömürlük.

However, this morning we checked wth the Belediye again, and their advice has changed.  Apparently, the D400 project managers do want to cut water for up to 2 weeks, starting on Monday 4th April

They are meeting with the Mayor of Kalkan today, (Tuesday), to discuss the matter.

For what it's worth, KTLN has asked the Belediye to do what they can to prevent this happening.  We will keep in touch with developments today, and report back on the outcome of the meeting at the Belediye.

It is 11 months ago, almost to the day, that Kışla and Kömürlük began a period of almost 3 weeks without water.  This was a particularly difficult time for residents and visitors.  We sincerely hope that any disruption coming up, will be for the shortest possible duration.
