Share A couple of earthquakes rattled a few tea cups on mainland Turkey yesterday afternoon, (Friday 1st April). The epicentre for both quakes was in the sea, between Rhodes and Crete. The first seismic event was at 16.29, at a depth of 12.1 km, and measured 6.3 according to the Kandilli observatory in Istanbul, (rated as 5.9 by USGS). The second quake was at 16.45, at a depth of 19.4km, and hit 4.1 on the Richter scale, as measured by Kandilli observatory, (3.9 by USGS). The tremors were felt in Kalkan, Fethiye, Dalaman and the Datça peninsular.Anecdotally, many people in Kalkan never felt a thing, so it's not surprising that there are no reports of any injuries, or damage to property. Below: A Google map showing the epicentre of the earthquakes.
