ShareArticle updated: Welcome to the KTLN guide to What's New in Kalkan for 2011 - part 3. These are the additional changes we have discovered since we published What's New parts 1 & 2. Who knows - there may be a part 4, if we get to hear of more changes. Feel free to contact us if you think there is something we should know about. On Kalamar Road, the Speed car rental office has transformed into Ada Rent a Car. It's not clear if this is just a change of name or a new business. Please note, it is not connected in any way to the Adda Group, (with two Ds). Could be confusing! Just a few metres down from the new rent a car office, what used to be Yaz cafe, is now a shop, selling assorted household goods. We don't know the name of the shop yet, but it's the same guy who sells household goods in the Thursday market, (one of the first stalls on the left). There has been a shuffling round near Ibo's pancake house, (close to the Asfiya hotel). The pancake house has taken over the end unit of a row of shops, to use as a kitchen. This was formerly the place you would find the Istanbul Sultan Mefrusat (fabric shop). He has moved to the next unit along. On Kalamar Road, the row of new business units where you will find Bread & More Bistro, (note, they have added the word Bistro), and Addu Property, now has another business - Sade Construction. They provide property design and construction services. Later this month, you will be able to find a place in Kalkan selling the Econoair air con energy saving devices. You will be able to buy them from the office of Platinum Property, almost opposite Enes car rental. However, please note that stocks will not be here in Kalkan, until the end of April. Kalkan Concierge, is now offering wedding planning and food hampers, in addition to its existing services. Kelebek furniture on the road to Kaş, has changed its name to Bravocassa. As far as we can tell everything else remains just as before, except the name. Luka restaurant is moving from its spot on the D400. In about 10 days it will reopen where Garden Cafe Bar used to be, between Salt & Papper and Korsan Fish Terrace restaurants. Given all the roadworks and the dirty conditions, plus the fact that people from Kışla and Körmürlük, will no longer walk past that corner position, a move was essential. At KTLN we are sorry to hear of the move, as in our D400 reporting, we have often referred to 'the Luka restaurant junction'. Now we will have to think of something else! Nural Seramik shop is being revamped, and upstairs, formerly the Rendezvous restaurant, is going to be a home for Nurettin, the shop owner. A new travel company has started trading, opposite Nural Seramik shop, called Unlimited Travel. It's where Volume Travel was last year. In our first What's New update for 2011, we told you about a new pide and kebab place, over the road from Kaya restaurant. We now know its name - Hünkar Ocakbaşı.Similarly, we now have the name of the eatery opening up close to Cafe Vita, down Kalamar Road. It will be called Aqua Cafe. Just one more name to tell you, and that's the new jewellery shop we mentioned in our part 2 update, being opened up by Şahin (aka Eagle). It will be open by mid April and will be called 'Wishes'.
Their whereabouts is a perennial question - so much so that we did suggest just buying an ice cream van, to drive round Kalkan, thereby eliminating the annual moving costs. They were going to be underneath Pisces restaurant. However, in a change of plan, the shop will now open close to Yacht Point Bar. Just a quick mention about rumours we have heard about HSBC coming to Kalkan. Informed sources in Kalkan's banking community, have told us that there is no truth in this rumour. Returning to the news about Korsan, from our first What's New article, we would like to clarify something. Korsan Meze has moved and taken over the spot where Korsan Kebab used to be. It will be run separately from Korsan Fish Terrace. In fact, Korsan Meze is returning to the place where the Korsan business originally started, all those years ago. Sorry for the confusion. Finally, in this update, we want to mention the town dolmuş - the hopper service, which serves Kalamar, Kışla, and the town centre. When we last spoke with Kalkan Tourism & Transport (KTT), they were planning their timetable, and talking about bringing in a map, with the 15 new bus stops we told you about. We are still waiting for the new timetable and map, but we will publish details as soon as we have them. In the meantime, KTLN has raised the question of extending this useful service to other areas, such as Kızıltaş and Körmürlük. We have spoken to the KTT and also to the Mayor. We mentioned that there are no fewer than 3 hotels in Kızıltaş, lots of rented holiday properties, plus a significant number of residents - Turkish and non-Turkish, including many schoolchildren, that would benefit from this hopper service. We are aware that no fewer than 35 people have already written to/emailed the Mayor, asking him to give permission to extend the dolmuş service, however he has not, so far agreed. We understand there are sensitivities in relation to the local taxi drivers, who would lose more income if the route was extended. If you have a property in Kalkan that is not currently served by this service, and you wish to see it extended, you may wish to consider writing to the Mayor. If you do, we recommend that you write in Turkish, as anything in English is unlikely to have any impact. You can find the Mayor's email on this Kalkan Belediye website: Contact the Mayor KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey.Katie-Ellen |
