| Problems obtaining residency at Kemer |

Share Following the introduction of new residency rules, and lower fees, KTLN has received reports of problems with the residency application process at Kemer, near Antalya. Unfortunately, it appears that in Antalya region, they have been interpreting the rules differently to other regions. The Police in Kemer said that if you were applying for residency, and you have a tapu, (property title deeds), then you must first go to the Turkish Consulate in your home country, to get permission to live in Turkey. Apparently, if you don't have a tapu, i.e. you rent, there was no problem. KTLN raised this matter with the British Embassy, and they told us they knew nothing of this requirement. According to KTLN's own research, no such problem has surfaced anywhere else in Turkey, since 1st April 2011. Today, we are pleased to say that following a bit of behind the scenes diplomatic activity, the police in Antalya region have changed their view, and British people who have a tapu, may apply for residency in Kemer, in the normal way - as before. No trip to London is required! The advice from KTLN, for anyone in Kalkan planning to apply for residency, is to wait a little longer until this message has filtered down to the front line staff, PROVIDING that any short delay in your application does not place you outside the law - i.e. you will not be in breach of your 90 day visa or existing residency permission. We love a happy ending, don't you? KTLN - your window on Kalkan Turkey. Katie-Ellen |
