At approximately 14.15 on Saturday 9th April, Sue Broadbent, a British resident of Kalkan, was involved in a road traffic accident, at the main D400 junction close to the petrol station.

Sue was riding her red scooter down the road from Akbel, and at the traffic lights junction, she came off her scooter and fell underneath an articulated lorry, sustaining severe injuries.

The Jandarma and Traffic Police attended, along with Dr Niyazi Öncüler.

The local Belediye ambulance took Sue to the medical centre on Kalamar Road, where she remained until the emergency 112 ambulance arrived from Kaş, to take her to the Esnaf hospital in Fethiye.

Sue was conscious after the incident, and was able to speak to friends.  However, her injuries are such that she has been in intensive care, and it is likely that she will remain in hospital for some days to come. 

At the moment, it is not possible to visit Sue, but close friends have managed to deliver get well cards to her.  Anyone wishing to send cards or messages, can leave them at Parc Kalkan, and from time to time, they will be taken to Fethiye.

KTLN was at the scene of the accident, but we postponed publishing this report until Sue's family in the UK were notified. 

Sue is a very popular member of the Kalkan community, and everyone wishes her a speedy recovery.
