Kalkan Jandarma captures yet another Fethiye felon PDF Print E-mail

Kalkan crimeKTLN is sorry to report that there was a break in on Thursday 21st April, at a villa just off Kalamar Road.

Whilst the owners were out, three burglars broke in and made off with a number of valuables, including passports.

Having suffered a break in last year, the owners had arranged for a small safe to be installed.  Unfortunately, this was quite easily smashed, and the contents removed.*

This trio of thieves drove off with their booty, but what they didn't know, was that a workman on a nearby roof had seen them in the villa, and had alerted the Jandarma.

Road block
The Jandarma quickly positioned themselves on the roads out of Kalkan, and as the fleeing car approached, with their escape route blocked, the three felons jumped out of the car and ran off.

Two of the three men escaped, but one was captured and placed in custody overnight, in the Kalkan Jandarma 'bed and breakfast suite'.  (You won't find it rated on Trip Advisor).

By Friday, the identities and addresses of the two burglars on the run had been confirmed, and the authorities are now searching for them.  All three men come from the Fethiye area.

Court appearance
The captured man, who has been described as a professional criminal, was in court in Kaş yesterday, Friday.  It turns out that he was apprehended on his 26th birthday.  He's probably had better birthdays.

Hopefully, in a short time, that will be three more burglars off the streets of Kalkan, and in jail.

Yet again, what this incident shows is how important it is for members of the public to be vigilant and observant, and to report any suspicious behaviour to the Jandarma.

A reminder of their direct line: 0242 844 3005.  They have English speaking officers.

Small safes - a reminder
* Just a quick mention about small safes.  In the KTLN article on home security, we do mention that small safes may provide you with a false sense of security.  Click here to read that article: Home Security
