It was a glorious day, and attracted a crowd in excess of 2,500. The day started with the usual procession down to the statue of Atatürk, where a brief ceremony was held. Then it was up to the market area for a morning full of music, dancing, and the odd speech thrown in, for good measure. The school football and volleyball teams looked very smart in their new kit, as the Mayor and Jandarma Chief handed out medals to the teams. It is days like this that make living in Kalkan such a wonderful experience. You can see genuine pleasure, enthusiasm, and community spirit on display. But as you would expect, it's the children that steal the show. To see their faces light up, as they perform in front of proud parents and onlookers, is pure magic. KTLN was out and about on Saturday 23rd April, for the National Sovereignty & Children's Day celebrations in Kalkan.
