KAPSA April 2011The KAPSA spring fair was held on Sunday 24th April, at the Kleo Bar and Seaport Restaurant.

The organisers estimate that well over a thousand people turned out, in search of a new outfit for spring, a good book, a slice of delicious cake, a pot of home made marmalade or a household bargain.

As many as sixty four local businesses very generously donated a wide range of prizes for the raffle and tombola.

Lucky raffle winners chose from a table full of goodies, and dozens of envelopes containing details of free meals, trips on boats, beauty treatments, water sports and similar treats.

The area was transformed for the day into a bustling bazaar, with one excited visitor exclaiming "It's just like TK Maxx, with sunshine and sea views"

Kalkan Mayor, Saim Karakurt and his wife attended, and visited each stall.  They were impressed with the hard work that had gone into organising the event.

Local children had entered a competition organised by KAPSA and the school, to draw pictures of their pets, and write a caption about why they love animals.

The winning entries showed that the KAPSA animal welfare message is getting through and this is just the start of an education campaign aimed at schools and children, which will be promoted not just in Kalkan, but in many neighbouring villages, to encourage responsible animal ownership.

The Kalkan line dancers turned out in force, complete with cowboy boots and stetson hats to entertain the visitors and the Kalkan children's accordion band and choir arrived to sing a variety of Turkish and international songs.

The sun shone all day, and as a result of everyone digging deep into their pockets, a substantial sum of 8,162.20 TL was raised.

KAPSA would like to thank everyone who gave donations, helped with the organisation, and came along to support their ongoing work .
