Fantastic. It ıs so comprehensıve for local and national news, full of interesting articles, and has great links: a sort of one-stop-sıte for an english-speaking resıdent. And the layout is terrific.

Holidaymaker drowns at Patara beach PDF Print E-mail

Patara drowning tragedyTragedy struck yesterday afternoon, Saturday 30th April, when a holidaymaker drowned in the sea off Patara beach.

The man, a British national, believed to be from Yorkshire, and his travelling companion, had only arrived in Kalkan in the morning, and it was their first day on holiday.

The conditions were challenging, with a stiff breeze and choppy seas.  The swimmer got into difficulty whilst trying to swim back to shore.

Another man, who was swimming close by tried to assist, but the conditions were too difficult to effect a rescue.

The accident happened at the far end of the beach, where the cafe and sunbed hire facilities are located.

Ambulance paramedics attended, as did Dr Niyazi Öncüler from Kalkan.  The Jandarma, from Kınık and Kalkan were also at the scene.

Patara beach is a wonderful place to go, when on holiday, however there are strong currents.  Care is always needed when swimming in any sea, but particularly so when conditions are rough, as yesterday's incident has so tragically reminded us.

Below: Photograph taken yesterday, shortly after the tragic drowning at Patara beach.
