This is because the Belediye is tapping in to a local source of fresh water, that can be found in the old town, not too far from the beach. It is not such a large source that it can supply lots of Kalkan homes, however it is enough to water plants in some public areas. And any water used from this source, means that less is drawn from the supply pumped from Saklıkent - which is good. So as you approach Kalkan, coming down the D400, admiring the palm trees and green grass, it is due in no small part to the local irrigation system, drawing on this ancient water source. Incidentally, as far as the planned water cut is concerned, if you are coming to Kalkan this week, you may be spared any inconvenience, if the property you are staying at, has a back-up water supply. Many properties in Kalkan have reserve tanks - including all of the hotels. It may be a question to ask, when you are considering where to stay, on holiday.
