What made me sign up to KTLN?  It's a good source of information/news and I always point clients to it as another reference point, on top of all the information we give them.  So well done.

Local minibus service partially restored PDF Print E-mail

Dolmuş serviceKalkan Turkish Local News has been trying to get its hands on the summer timetable for the dolmuş service around town.

This service, covering Kışla, Kalamar and the town centre was introduced in August 2010, but was all but suspended when the tourist season ended.

Now, May 2011, it is to resume, however it will be reintroduced gradually.

The only service available now (May 2011) is between the bus station and Kalamar Bay.  Buses are at the following times:

Departing from the bus station at 08.45; 09.45; 10.45; 14.45 & 19.45.

Departing from Kalamar Bay (Klube) at 09.00; 10.00; 11.00; 15.00 & 20.00.

The fare for any single journey is 2.00TL (in 2010 it was 1.5TL).  You can hail a dolmuş as it is passing, and hop on board.

The minibus travels via the town centre, and whilst it does not automatically go to the harbour, if you ask, they will take you there.

KTLN has been informed that the operators failed to make money on these routes last year.  So our message to KTLN readers for this year, would be: "Use it, or lose it".

We did mention to the operators (KTT), that as it is a fairly new service, they have to give it time, and also, buses need to turn up, according to their schedule.

Last year we heard of several occasions where buses failed to show.  This leads to a lack of confidence, and people will not risk waiting, resulting in fewer fare paying passengers.

When we hear that the service is being extended to other parts of town, we will let you know.
