The main reason [for joining] is that since I have been in Kalkan (14 years), I have for the first time good information about what is happening in Kalkan.

Cafe LeonThis article may be of interest to foreigners in Kalkan, who are trying to learn Turkish.

Unless you are a complete natural, learning a foreign language can be a real challenge.

Whatever method you use - the classroom, books, audio CDs, KTLN's Ten Second Turkish*, etc, the key to progressing, is to use your Turkish in day to day conversations.

So, Turkish language students will be pleased to know that there is now somewhere that you can practice your Turkish, in an informal setting.

Starting on Monday 23rd May, at 11.00, the Turkish Conversation Club will meet, at Cafe Leon, in the town centre.  The organiser would like this to become a regular weekly gathering.

It's a chance for Turkish language students to use what they have learned, and boost their confidence.

It is also a chance to iron out any mistakes, in a safe and friendly environment, and to pick up some new useful phrases along the way.  Those who attend are invited to share their own knowledge in a co-operative and constructive atmosphere.

This initiative is the idea of local resident, Eva Henning.  There is no charge.

* KTLN's Ten Second Turkish can be found in the Main Menu, if you are logged in as a KTLN member.  You will find 52 articles - one for every week of the year.  Each one contains 7 words or phrases, so that's one for every day of the week.  We focus on practical Turkish words and phrases, that will be useful in Kalkan.

We reckon that it will take you about ten seconds per day, to read out the words and phrases we have published.

Whilst the feature is only available to registered members, here is an example from the series, that we have made public.  Just click on the following link: Ten Second Turkish Week 50 - Home Maintenance & Repairs Part 1
