D400Well, it may have taken 621 days instead of 600 days, but the full stretch of the new D400 dual carriageway is now open.

There was no offıcial ribbon cutting ceremony, however, all the way from the hill coming down to the traffic lights, past the Luka junction (as was), and on to just beyond Kışla, traffic is now flowing on both carriageways.

The upper carriageway, furthest from the sea, is for Fethiye bound traffic, and the lower 'sea side' carriageway, for Kaş bound vehicles.

Perhaps understandably, today (Wednesday), we did see a few cars on the wrong side of the road, who were obviously caught out by the change of road layout.

Below: Workmen removing the temporary diversion signs on the D400.

Hopefully, drivers will notice that all the temporary diversion signs have now been removed, and stay on the correct side.  For a while, it may be prudent to expect the unexpected!

Although the road is fully open and usable, there is still a bit of finishing off to be done.  For example, the old Luka junction, (see photo below), is devoid of any white lines, so for the time being, in this area, it probably pays to drive even more carefully, and look out in all directions before driving in or out of Kalkan.

Further, the Kışla junction is still to be finished off, so again, extra care is required here.

The local service road, Kışla Caddesi, is looking a little better, but there are still a number of particularly rough stretches.  It's no problem in a car, but it's no picnic on a scooter, and walking is hard on the feet, with lots of rocks to trip on, especially when it is dark.
