A Belediye spokesman has told KTLN that some of the existing pumps are damaged, and a new pump has been ordered, and is on its way. Apparently, the new pump will have the capacity of five old pumps, and will use less electricity. A reduced water supply has been reaching Kalkan, however the pressure is so low that some areas are getting no water at all. The Belediye spokesman said today, that it may take a week to get the new pump operational, and supplies returning to normal. For those of you who are wondering what happened to the new pumps installed in recent years, we are told that these are the ones that have become damaged. Some water from Saklıkent is still being diverted to Kaş, which is exacerbating the shortfall in Kalkan. The reason that Kaş can draw on Saklıkent water, is because they have a dual supply agreement in place. Whilst their main supply comes from Gömbe, they can, and do, draw on Saklıkent water, as and when required. As they have a proper contract in place, and have paid for this back up service, they are entitled to use it. As far as we know, Kalkan does not have a reciprocal back up agreement with Kaş, for us to be able to use water from Gömbe.
