Work was completed recently to improve the local storage capacity in Akbel. There are two tanks in Akbel and one in Kalamar, which provide a small buffer in the event of a temporary disruption to the supply from Saklikent. However, the Belediye wants to increase local storage capacity still further as soon as finances allow. In terms of pumping capacity, 8 out of 12 of the old pumps are working, however they are inefficient units and their life-span is limited. The Belediye has ordered one new super-efficient pump, which will eventually take over from the old pumps. This will cost somewhere in the region of 200,000 TL, but it is so efficient that it will use only one third of the electricity of the old pumps, and will therefore pay for itself within a very short time - less than one year. The old pumps will be retained as emergency stand by units until a second new pump can be bought to provide more effective back up. Where we learn of planned water outages we will let you know. If you become aware of a significant water supply problem, drop us a line, telling us which part of Kalkan you are in, and we can alert others. Share |
