As an owner of a property in Kalkan, this site seemed an excellent way of keeping in touch, especially as for much of the year I am not able to be out there.

Kalkan curbs late night noise PDF Print E-mail

Late night noiseLast summer, Kalkan Turkish Local News reported that the Turkish government was to get tough on late night, (technically, early morning), loud music.

It was widely reported that a cut-off at midnight was to be implemented across Turkey, but as far as we know, this did not happen.

On Friday 22nd July 2011, Kalkan Belediye announced that this new law is now effective.  We are not sure if it is national, but apparently, it applies to Antalya region.

So, with immediate effect all establishments playing music must not cause noise nuisance after midnight.

Our understanding is that places such as restaurants must stop playing music at midnight.  Bars and discos may continue to play music until 4am, but it must be indoors, and at a level that will not cause a nuisance to neighbours.

It will be interesting to see how this new law is enforced.  If you believe that an establishment is breaking the law, and is causing a nuisance, you should call the Jandarma on 0242 844 3005 to register your complaint. They should attend the scene and write a report, which will be passed to the Belediye for action.

The Belediye has powers to fine people who break the law on noise pollution.  Repeat offenders are fined at higher levels, and in extreme cases, may have their licence to operate withdrawn.
