Meteor showerIf you are in Kalkan over the next few weeks, you will have plenty of opportunity to see shooting stars.

The 2011 Perseid meteor shower peaks on 13th August this year, however this coincides with a full moon, which illuminates the night sky, making it harder to see anything.

But you should be able to see lots of shooting stars now, and especially on 30th July, when we have a new moon.

Meteor shower activity builds up from the end of July, peaks in mid August, and then trails off again.

Below are a few links providing more information.

Wikipedia - Perseids

Shooting stars in the Kalkan skies are truly spectacular, and none more so than the Perseids.

You may be familiar with the words of Herodotus, the 5th century Greek historian, who came to Kalkan.  He is reported to have said that Kalkan was the nearest place on earth to the stars.  So you really couldn't be in a better place.
