Business signs and furniture on the streets - a new KTLN poll PDF Print E-mail

This may not be Kalkan news (yet), but we were interested to read on Hurriyet Daily News recently, about the crack down in Istanbul, on restaurants putting tables and chairs on the streets.  Read the article here.

At a recent Kalkan Belediye meeting, this very subject was raised.  A local businessman said that nobody was enforcing local rules, and consequently, local businesses were spreading out on to the streets.

It was claimed that not only is this unsightly, but it presents a hazard that people have to get round.

In Kalkan, it's not just tables and chairs on the streets, there are signs, menus, and goods for sale.

From time to time, the Belediye has made tannoy announcements, asking businesses to remove things from the street, but in recent times, we are not aware of any enforcement.

Technically, many businesses may be breaking the law, but they would no doubt argue that it adds to the character of Kalkan, and it has been going on for years.

KTLN would like to know what you think.  With reference to Kalkan town centre, do you want Kalkan Belediye to follow Istanbul, in cracking down on businesses who obstruct the highway, or don't you really mind?

Tell us what you think, by voting in our poll.  Select the answer below that is closest to your view.

Business signs and furniture on Kalkan streets - good or bad?

  • Love it.  Adds to the charm of Kalkan.
  • Mostly OK, with a few exceptions.
  • Neutral - not a big deal either way.
  • It's getting too much - action required.
  • Don't like it.  Clear the streets completely.

Registered members of KTLN will find the poll on the right had side of our home page.  You must be logged in to vote in this poll.
