Foreigners department in Kaş - an update PDF Print E-mail

In July, KTLN invited readers to join us in our request to have a foreigners department in nearby Kaş Police station, so that (amongst other things), people wishing to apply for residency wouldn't need to go all the way to Kemer.

Over 200 people were happy to put their name to our request, and we recently forwarded details to the British Embassy in Turkey.

They have confirmed that the subject will be raised in bilateral talks with Turkish authorities later this year.

Whether they will agree, remains to be seen.  It depends upon the number of residents in the area, and resources available (buildings and people).  We hope that they will also take into consideration the comments submitted by over 200 foreigners.

Next month, ahead of the bilateral talks, we will be publishing contact details for the Antalya area Police force, where you can submit a direct appeal, if you wish to do so.

Clearly, any request should be written in Turkish, so if you plan on dropping them a line, you may want to start thinking about getting a Turkish friend to help you write something - unless of course, you are fluent in Turkish!  Our advice is to keep it brief and polite.

Finally, as we have referred to the British Embassy above, a quick mention of a couple of other important subjects.

There is still no definite news of the implementation date for the 90/180 day visa rules, which were put on ice last summer.  Nor is there anything new to report on the confusion around the changes to the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) scheme through the SGK.

We will let you know as soon as there is anything official.
