Earlier this month, we asked for your views on the encroachment of business signs, furniture and assorted goods, on to the streets of Kalkan.

The poll was prompted by recent news of strict enforcement on the streets of Istanbul.  The matter was also raised at a recent Kalkan Belediye Board meeting, by a local businessman.

So what do KTLN members think?  Around 200 of you expressed a view.  The results are shown below.

• Mostly OK, with a few exceptions - 43%
• It's getting too much - action required - 21%
• Love it.  Adds to the charm of Kalkan - 19%
• Neutral - not a big deal either way - 12%
• Don't like it.  Clear the streets completely - 5%

Almost 3 out of 4 people in our poll, (74%), seem to be quite happy with how things are, subject to the odd exception, or they don't feel particularly strongly about the subject.  Whilst 1 in 4 (26%), think something needs to be done.

This result would tend to suggest that the Belediye's softly softly approach on persuading businesses not to go too far, rather than opting for a tough crackdown, is probably in tune with popular sentiment.
