Last year, a new Ultra Marathon route was established on the popular Lycian Way - the first Ultra Marathon route in Turkey. Coming up soon, between Saturday 24th September and Sunday 2nd October, participants will take part in the 2nd Lycian Way Ultra Marathon. They will make their way along approximately 240 km of the 500 km Lycian Way - just under half of the overall length. Along the route they will run at altitudes ranging from sea level, up to 800 metres. The precise route has not yet been published, so we can't say how close to Kalkan they will come. The race proper starts near Ölü Deniz, close to Fethiye, at 7am on Monday 26th September, after a couple of days of preparation. As someone who enjoys walking on the Lycian Way, I can see the attraction of this route - it is truly spectacular. But as for running it? Count me out.
