Kalkan concertKalkan experienced a magical concert with a difference yesterday.

Thanks to the Mayor of Cupramontana, (Kalkan's twin town), and local organisers, we enjoyed a great evening of music and entertainment.

Soprano Dragana Moles, and her husband, accomplished pianist Daniele Moles, gave brilliant performances, from the deck of Kalkan Regency's Poseidon boat, which was moored in the centre Kalkan harbour.

The main performance, from Dragana Moles (pictured below), was preceded by a mini concert from local children.

Dragana Moles - opera singerHarbour-side restaurants co-operated by not playing their own music, so that everyone in the area could fully enjoy these live performances.

People sat in their favourite restaurants, or found alternative free seating around the harbour area. The captains of the day trip boats had very kindly moved their vessels, to give a better view.

We estimate that considerably more than one thousand people turned out on a calm, and warm evening, under starlit skies.  The harbour restaurants were exceptionally busy.

KTLN spoke to many people in the harbour area, and the response was universally positive. There was a great mood of excitement in the air, and the audience was most appreciative, with applause echoing round the harbour, after each song.

The wonderful music coming through the powerful sound system, was matched by the awesome visual spectacle of the Poseidon, brightly lit in the centre of the harbour, against the blackness of the night sky.

Unfortunately, there were a few technical hitches with the sound, as the children performed, but otherwise, the evening ran smoothly.

At the end of the evening, the Kaş Kaymakam, Selami Kapankaya, and the Mayor of Kalkan, Saim Karakurt, thanked the performers, for a superb show.

Thanks must go to the Kalkan Belediye, the Kalkan Regency hotel, and Sadık Oğretir, for arranging this memorable evening of entertainment.  Bravo!  Congratulations on a job well done.  More please.

Below we publish some excellent images taken by local photographers, Devrim Çelebi, Aşkınay Tomanbay, Adem Elibol and Erdal Okurgan.  Bellissimmo!  Please respect copyright and do not copy these images without permission.

Finally, if you missed this concert, all is not lost.  On the evening of Thursday 29th September, there will be a very special Italian night at the Kalkan Regency hotel, where Dragana and Daniele Moles will be performing.

For one night only, there will be a special Italian menu, cooked by Luigi Mangenelli, a well known chef from Perugia.  Contact the hotel for details.
