Kalkan beachMany areas of Turkey suffered storms and torrential rain over the weekend, and into Monday.

Coastal areas were particularly badly affected, with some fatalities and a number of people missing.

You can read more about the wider problems in the following news links.

The weather in Kalkan
Closer to home, Sunday and Monday in Kalkan were a bit of a washout, but at least there were no serious problems, that we are aware of.

The rain persisted throughout Sunday afternoon and evening, culminating in blustery winds, and an electrical storm late at night, with lots of lightening, but no thunder.

Monday saw more grey skies and stormy weather, including a dramatic hail storm, that swept in from the sea.  See our photos below.

Kalkan schoolchildren enjoyed a day off on Monday, as the education authority decided to close schools across Antalya, due to the stormy conditions.

The KTLN forecast predicts more rain today (Tuesday), and cooler temperatures, with things improving on Wednesday, and a return to warmer, sunny days on Thursday.

Down at the beach
On Monday morning we saw Belediye workmen clearing up the mess at the town beach.

Some of the sun shades that were installed this year, were washed out of position and down into the water, by the heavy seas that crashed on to the beach overnight.
