According to the US Geological Survey, (USGS), the first one, registering a magnitude of 5.6 was in the early hours of yesterday morning. The second, more devastating quake, registering 5.7, according to USGS, struck at 21.23 last night. Subsequent news bulletins have reported this second quake as magnitude 5.6. The first one was at a depth of 9km and its effects were not as bad as the second one, which was only 4km beneath the surface. Several people have died and dozens are believed to be trapped in collapsed buildings. This dreadful news comes only a matter of weeks since a massive 7.2 earthquake hit the area, which killed more than 600 people, and injured hundreds more. Since that tragic day, (23rd October), there have been many smaller aftershocks, but yesterdays events were the most devastating, causing significant casualties and structural damage.
