Kalkan boats hoisted out of the harbour PDF Print E-mail

Kalkan boatsOn Thursday 17th November, work began to remove most of the boats from Kalkan harbour.

Last year, you may recall that the hoist didn't arrive until late December, because the Belediye were doing some work in the harbour, installing new water and electric systems.

It left the boats at the mercy of two great storms on 13th and 17th December 2010, with torrential rain and winds of over 100km per hour.

If you want to be reminded of what that looked like, you can read our reports, with photos.  Click on the following links:

Meanwhile, back to 2011, and the hoist has arrived at the more traditional time.  It's a final reminder that the tourist season is at an end.

Many of Kalkan's boatmen come together to work as a team, making sure that the delicate operation of hoisting the boats on to wooden chocks, goes smoothly.

Fortunately, the weather was kind for them, with blue skies and little wind.  Kolay gelsin!

Here are a few photos.
