We were interested to find out how many people like to be in Kalkan out of the main tourist season. We have had well over 200 votes, and have split these responses into residents and visitors. The analysis below relates only to those who voted. We don't claim that these figures represent all visitors, but on the other hand, we have no reason to believe the data is anything other than a random reflection of KTLN members. Here are the figures for visitors:
Total votes from visitors: 146. From this we can see that of the 86 people that have visited Kalkan out of season before, 71% of them are planning to return this winter. Therefore 29% are not visiting. On the other hand, 59 people say they have never been out of season before, but 20% of this cohort say they will be coming out for the first time. If these cohorts and percentages are representative of the bigger picture, the net position would be a slight reduction in the number of visitors coming to Kalkan, out of season. Here are the figures for residents:
Total votes from residents: 69. Only 7% of residents move out of Kalkan, for most or all of the autumn/winter months. The majority, (54%) stay here most of the time. Many residents tell us that this is the time of year they enjoy the most, because the temperatures are just right (in the Goldilocks zone), and despite the occasional bit of construction noise, Kalkan does have a certain air of peace and tranquility. And when the cold evenings come, there is nothing nicer than to gather round an open fire, with friends, with a warming drink and maybe a little food, toasting on the flames. Kalkan is certainly quiet right now, but no doubt it will get busier at Christmas and New Year. If you have not been out at these times before, we think you will enjoy the experience. We have another KTLN poll for you, coming soon.
