Kalkan out of seasonDecember has arrived, and Kalkan finds itself blessed with pleasant, sunny days, and cold evenings, under clear starry skies.

Temperatures today were in excess of 20 degrees celcius, and in the direct sun, it was perfectly fine to be wearing a t-shirt.  At sundown though, a jumper was required.

In this report, we bring you a few words and images, describing Kalkan out of season.

Sights of Kalkan
The streets of Kalkan old town are very quiet indeed, but not deserted.  People are going about their business, and there is a reasonable trade for those eating places still open.  Today is market day, so it is the busiest day of the week.

There is not much activity in the water at the moment, however the Coast Guard was out and about today in a rather splendid, super-fast vessel.

The beach was occupied by just two people, whilst a stone's throw away, a digger was carefully placing boulders in position, to reinforce the harbour wall.

Sounds of Kalkan
Echoing around town are the usual regular calls from the mosque, and the background noise of construction sites.  In the evenings and late at night, depending where you are, you can hear the barking and howling of Kalkan's canine community.

And there is a new sound to get used to - the wailing siren from our new emergency ambulance.  The new 112 service was called out no fewer than 45 times in its first month, and the sound of the siren is something we will no doubt get used to. It's a small price to pay for the reassurance of having them there.

Here are a few scenes from Kalkan - most of which were taken today, Thursday 1st December.
