Temperatures today were in excess of 20 degrees celcius, and in the direct sun, it was perfectly fine to be wearing a t-shirt. At sundown though, a jumper was required. In this report, we bring you a few words and images, describing Kalkan out of season. Sights of Kalkan There is not much activity in the water at the moment, however the Coast Guard was out and about today in a rather splendid, super-fast vessel. The beach was occupied by just two people, whilst a stone's throw away, a digger was carefully placing boulders in position, to reinforce the harbour wall. Sounds of Kalkan And there is a new sound to get used to - the wailing siren from our new emergency ambulance. The new 112 service was called out no fewer than 45 times in its first month, and the sound of the siren is something we will no doubt get used to. It's a small price to pay for the reassurance of having them there. Here are a few scenes from Kalkan - most of which were taken today, Thursday 1st December. Below: Down at the harbour - reinforcing the breakwater. They tell us that work should be completed this week.
Below: The Coast Guard on his way out. The beach is almost deserted.
Below: The Coast Guard at speed in Kalkan Bay, as viewed from the Moonlight Bar.
Below: The Coast Guard coming back into the harbour.
Below: All quiet by Doy Doy and the Turkmen carpet shop.
Below: Looking up Hasan Altan Caddesi. The Culture House is nearest, on the right.
Below: Luka restaurant and Korsan Fish Terrace restaurant, on Atatürk Caddesi.
Below: Quiksilver is still open, but not the Merkez.
Below: The gözleme lady hard at work in the market, by the fruit and veg stalls.
Below: The döner kebab vans close to the Thursday market. You should see the queues when the kids come out of school, at lunch time.
Below: The end of 'market street'. There are fewer stalls at this time of year.
Below: The autumn sun shines on a serene Kalkan Bay.
Below: Mouse and Snake, floating in the shimmering Mediterranean.
Below: Taken a couple of weeks ago - burning off rubbish - a common sight at this time of year. Below: Taken last night - another example from over the hill - not far from La Vanta.
Below: Finally, we thought we would include this photo, from 16th October. Kalkan at night, as seen from KTLN HQ. And yes, that is a fire - we believe it was on the dirt track, not far from Indigo Beach Club.
