On the sea side of the road metal barriers are now in place, virtually all the way between Kalkan and Kaş. In addition to this, on the inland side of the road, workers have been placing wire netting on the steep, rocky mountain sides, adjacent to the carriageway. Currently, you can see work going on between Kalkan and Kışla. They have already completed significant stretches in the direction of Kaş. If you have ever driven along the coastal route, you may have spotted rocks and stones, that have rolled down the mountain, on to the road, causing a hazard. We have never heard of rocks hitting a passing vehicle, but clearly the risk must have been there. Now this risk has been largely mitigated, thanks to the fixing of this strong wire netting. It's a welcome development, which will improve road safety in the area. Here in Kalkan, you can't always get what you want, but the authorities have done a respectable job in getting the rocks off the road. As for the wire netting, it's all over now. :-) Below: Abseiling down, between a rock and a hard place.
