TeskomArticle updated: There are a few developments that we can update you on, regarding Kalkan's supermarkets.

There has been lots of speculation about supermarkets this year.  In this article we bring you our take on what is happening.

KTLN readers will know that the Belediye recently decided that it would not stop the big supermarket chains coming to town - providing of course, that they comply with local planning requirements.

We know for certain that some of the big supermarkets, including Bim, Genpa, Kipa and Migros, have been talking to local property owners.

Article update: Hot off the press, workers have begun renovating a property for a new Bim supermarket.  Work is going on at the old Yüksel furniture shop, not far from the D400 traffic lights, on the right side of the road, as you come into town.

As we have already reported, Genpa is expected to start up in the former Adda supermarket premises, early in 2012.

TeskomAnd following the closure of Adda supermarket, we must sadly report that Teskom supermarket has also recently stopped trading.

No decision has yet been made on what kind of business will be trading there in future.

[Editor: What kind of business do you think would work well in this spot?  Let us know what you think.]

New Migros store coming soon?KTLN understands that barring any last minute hiccup, Migros supermarket will be opening in Kalkan in the spring of 2012.

We are informed that it will occupy the new premises being built on Şehitler Caddesi, (soon to be a dual carriageway), between the traffic light junction on the D400, and Ziraat Bank.

The developer is going to be providing extensive car parking adjacent to the building.

Yalı supermarketFinally, news about Yalı supermarket.

It has had a bit of a facelift, with the grassed area in front of the shop having been replaced by a new ceramic tiled floor.

Some time in the new year, and certainly before the tourist season starts, there will be a big fruit and vegetable section in this area.

We also understand that part of this tiled area will be devoted to a small cafe, where non-shoppers will be able to grab a drink.

Remember, that you can compare the supermeerkats in Kalkan, in our comprehensive KTLN Business Directory.
