Earthquake just 20 miles from Kalkan PDF Print E-mail

EarthquakeAn earthquake, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, was detected in the Mediterranean last night, some 32 kilometres, (20 miles), away from Kalkan.

That's pretty close.  But please don't worry.

Fortunately, the epicentre was at a depth of 46 kilometres, (29 miles), which is quite deep, so the chances are you didn't feel a thing.

The quake struck at 22.35 local time, whilst Kalkan was experiencing stormy weather, so your windows may have been rattling already - another reason why nobody probably noticed.

In seismology, an earthquake of this magnitude is classed as 'light' - "Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises. Significant damage unlikely".
