In this article we tell you how the money was spent. Kalkan resident, Barbara Monks acted as co-ordinator with the help of local businessman, Ergun Duran. In fact, it transpired that the Centre in Kalkan was not the place where funds were most needed. They have a satellite classroom in a school in Üzümlü for local children with learning difficulties, and that required a bit of renovation. The money was spent on this renovation work, which included the class being redecorated, and the acquisition of some new furniture, some of which was made locally. It was also possible to buy some educational toys. The classroom is now looking much better and is fit for use. The local children still go to the Kalkan Centre for some lessons, but having a classroom in Üzümlü, means that they can learn alongside other local children, some of the time. The Rehabilitation Centre would like to thank everyone who took part in the fundraising event, and especially the organisers, Caroline Cassidy and Jennie Bingham. Below: Ergun Duran, teacher Ebru and Barbara Monks, with the presentation cheque for £1,028.
Below: The classroom transformed by the money raised. (Sorry, we have no 'before' shot to show you).
