Kalkan taxi fares - the facts PDF Print E-mail

Kalkan TaxisArticle updated 1st July 2009.  The subject of taxis in Kalkan is something that has attracted much comment over recent years.  KTLN thought that it would be useful to get some concrete facts, so we spoke to the Kalkan Taxi Co-operative and we also undertook some fresh, independent analysis on taxi fares, here in Kalkan and in other locations.

KTLN members can refer to the Knowledge Bank for full details of Kalkan taxi fares for local journeys and also longer distance destinations.  We have also got a table comparing the taxi fares in Kaş, Fethiye, Bodrum, Istanbul and London on a like for like basis, as at May/June 2009.  See the Transport section for our article on taxis.

You will note from the comparison table that fares in Kalkan and Kaş are identical. Bodrum is a little cheaper, then Fethiye, and Istanbul is the least expensive in our comparison group.  London taxis are the most expensive, using a 2km journey as an example.

Using information from the taxi article in the KTLN Knowledge Bank, we can advise that for local trips taken before midnight, you can expect to pay the following in Kalkan:

  • A trip of 1km - 7TL or £2.80
  • A trip of 2km - 11TL or £4.40
  • A trip of 3km - 15TL or £6.00

An exchange rate of 2.5 is used in the above calculations.

A spokesman for the taxi co-operative told KTLN that standard fares should be applied for all local journeys. If you find you are not charged correctly, they would ask you to report full details immediately to their headquarters in town.

Rates for longer distance journeys should be agreed beforehand.  Guideline fares for the most popular destinations outside of Kalkan are shown in our taxis article, referred to above.
