Kalkan, said by Herodotus to be the closest place on Earth to the stars, is an excellent place to see the Lyrid meteor shower. The ideal time to be watching is on Saturday night and before dawn on Sunday morning - 21st to 22nd April. The KTLN weather forecast predicts there will be no clouds to spoil your view. So grab a warm drink, and head for the nearest roof terrace. Or even better still, head off into the mountains behind Kalkan, where there is no ambient light pollution, where your viewing pleasure will be further enhanced. With a new moon reducing moonlight to a minimum, this Saturday night could be a great time to wish upon a shooting star.
