It is with great sadness that we report the death of local diver, Evren Sofioğlu.

Evren, who was just 20 years old, had worked as a dive master in Kalkan over recent years, and was a popular figure in the diving community.

The accident happened in Kalamar Bay, yesterday evening, after he had finished working, and was free diving, (skin diving, with no scuba equipment), with a friend.  It was not a scuba diving accident.

KTLN understands that Evren suffered a shallow water blackout.  A scuba diver went down to rescue him, and a medical team tried to resuscitate him, but it was too late.

He was buried in his home town, Adana, this morning. 

Accidents like this are always sad, but when it involves someone so young, it is even more tragic.  Those who worked alongside Evren, have told us of their shock, and how incredibly sad they all are.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
